September Blog Assignment

Today (and this weekend) you'll be looking at the welcome posts of your classmates. Please read all of them. You may reply to them with questions or suggestions; remember -- you need ten substantial responses by the end of the month.

Once you have read all of the welcome posts, please return here and answer the following questions in a reply to this post. I will use what you write here to draft a rubric for the blogs.

  1. Think about the posts you liked best. What things did they have in common?
  2. After reading your classmates' posts, what, if anything, do you feel your post is missing?
  3. What lingering questions do you have regarding the blog assignment for this class?

Enjoy!

Hi, Mrs.Vernon it's me Leslie C. and i just wanted to say that many of this posts were really interesting and powerful. I noticed that many of these writes are very strong writers. For example, Joel, Vanessa F.M, Edwin Granados, and a few more. To me they left me with wanting to read more about their topic.I feel that my writng needs more strong vocabulary that would make my writng strong and interesting. After reading their posts it gave me ideas about comparing, if possible, my topic to famous people or leaders that change our lives. For example, I can write about famous quotes that M.L.K Jr. said at his speech. Maybe this will more interest to my topic. I only have one question are we going to have more blog assignments like this one where we will reply to you?

Hi Leslie,

I'm sure there will be some times when I ask you to reply to me, but that's not my overall goal. I'm really interested in you reading and replying to one another.

Thank you for your thoughtful response :)

Dear Mrs. Vernon,
I have hust read all of the posts and I am very excited to get this started. I have had the opportunity to read over powerful writers and each personality. Although some were better than others -due to natural talent- there were still a lot of mixed emotions and attitudes towards the class. Nonetheless, by referring to the questions of the assingment, I think that the 4 writers that standed out of the orchard were Edwin Granados, Vanessa FM, Leslie and Diana. These Fantastic Four really made me reflect and think about my writng. Personally, I think that each writing piece of each individual is very differently, therefore comparing to one another is not correct at the moment; however, what I do want to get across is that all of these excellent writers when joined will learn more than when they are lonely. Moreover, what I did see in each of these writers that I would want to integrade into my writing would be a brief dicription about myself and what is the reason or motivations to be present at this particular class. In regards in making my blog more interesting would be adding cool referrences that each one would like for instance, in my post I talked about Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr, and now I would like to add characters like Spider-Man or Super-man. Although it will not always be like that, I am goign to swift back and forth once in a while in order to make my blog as interesting as possible, but as informative as well.

Ms are we going to change our topic here and there or our topics goign to be the same until the end of the year?

All of the posts I've read so far are of great writing material and many i feel express a lot about their feelings, at this moment I cant quite say which were the best simply because, feelings were expressed and thats because thats what we were instructed, and not a lot of knowledge perhaps? At least that's what I looked when I was reading the posts. All these posts have a lot of feelings that are expressed which I think, is missing from my paper. Which brings up to my question.
What Im i writing?
I know its about the rhetoric of
genders but what about it?
I need to be told, whether to be serious or share an opinon, or story.

Dear ms. Vernon
i have read at least 10 of the pf the blogs. the ones that i liked were several ones. i liked Diana's because she explain the good things about th e class and the bad things. i also liked that she mentioned that the instructor is not going to give us thumbs up or down and not baby us as well. the other blog that i liked was Joels. the reason is because he had a really warming introduction. the ones that i read had something in common. they all explain their topics and gave a little description about what to look forward to in the future.
after reading the blogs i have noticed that some blogs had really good vocabulary and mine is just simple and not really high vocabulary.

I enjoyed most of the blogs that i read because they all seemed interesting. The ones that I think stood out to me the most were the Poems and Movie ones. this is because I find my topic very similar to their's. I felt that my blog just needed a better explanation of how I was planning to show rhetoric of songs. I still don't have the habit of daily checking my blog but I feel I will start posting blogs more often than I even need to but thats in the future.

i have not gotten around to reading all of them, but i have read most of the blogs. One thing that I like about some of the blogs I have read is that they have defined what their subject is and any other words that are related. Those blogs really stood out because I felt that I could understand more about what they were talking about.
I now feel that I should probably do the same when writing my blog. If I mention some place, person, or thing, I should include a definition or explanation at the bottom of my post.

Dear Mrs. Vernon
I have read most of the posts and i find them all interesting. Some introductions really described themselves and even things i didnt even know of about them. I also think everyones topic are interesting like music, poems, movies, etc. I would like to learn and read more about their blogs. This could help us be better writers and thinkers which would hopefully help us improve our writing to succeed in college. Some posts had better vocabulary than mine and some described more than mine but i would like to learn from them and hopefully i get to learn enough so that i could improve not only my blog but my writing too.

Hi Miss Vernon,
So you asked us to tell you which blogs we found the most interesting but really liked all of them really for example like Edwin Garcia really touched me on what he said about all our parents working very hard for each and everyone of us to have a better future, to Steve's blog saying that he compares writing and reading to eating broccoli , to hernan making me interested to a movie i never even heard of. I think each and everyone of them had their own little touch of themselves and showed to all of us. I would say the same things as my other peers have said i am missing the strong vocabulary the rest of my peers i have and make my post a little bit more interesting as well maybe compare words to things i dislike? anyway i wan to ask you: what is your favorite blog and from all of our blogs what can you actually learn from us? sorry if you might find this question rude and all but i want to know how you really feel about our blogs? So see you in class and have a great day

Ms. Vernon
I’ve read everyone’s welcome post, and looked over many comments that were made to one another. I fail to recognize if I like one post more then the other because I feel that we all have great potential. I’ve enjoyed reading every single one of my colleague’s posts and I admit to have learned several new aspects to reaching success. So many topics, from music to school, and poems to speeches yet there is one thing I never miss out on. Rhetoric, (speech or writing that communicates its point persuasively) it’s in everyone’s writing. Somehow and somewhere you will find that Rhetoric is introduced in one way or the other.
From the post I’ve read, I’ve stolen great knowledge, which if it’s considered a crime then I am guilty. What I would like to see a change in is the length and thought of our comments. I scrolled down quite a couple blogs and I was saddened to see that our responses were not very long. It may be just me but I’ve found useful when I’ve encountered long thoughtful comments. They give us more to work with which I’m sure we all would not mind having.
Perhaps we should make it a school requirement that every student has a blog attached to their DP’s.  Awesome Idea?
Attentively,
Edwin Granados

Now that I've read almost all the post I think that many of them are actually really good and interesting. Many of my classmates show potential in their writting which encourages me to read more about their blog. The post that I enjoyed the most were the one's that created emotion among the reader's and the ones who shared a bit of personal expierene..
I have just one question: can you help me understand more throughly the rhetoric in culture and how the words in a certain religion create diferent believs?
